On Saturday, October 18 several members participated in the Faith Recovery 5k! Thank you to Mary Baldwin, Suzan Weed , Joanie Headrick and Rocky Sporer for participating in this wonderful fundraiser for a great organization! (And by the way, I understand that Mary left the others in the dust! Go Mary!)

Throughout the year, we participate in many physical projects which benefit those in need. We assist with “A night’s welcome” which is a program operated through HELP (Hampton Ecumenical Lodging and Provisions) which provides shelter to area homeless persons. We assist in providing and serving meals to those who are in need. We also collect canned and boxed goods for them to distribute to the homeless community.
We fill boxes for “Operation Christmas Child”, a program through Samaritan’s Purse, which distributes these boxes to children in places where they would have no other gifts for Christmas.
We take up a collection for Faith Recovery whose mission statement is: REBUILDING lives that have been devastated by drug addiction and alcoholism, RESTORING Hope in Families, and ESTABLISHING productive citizens back into the community.
We take up collections for Week of Compassion which is the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Week of Compassion works with partners to alleviate suffering throughout the world.
Many of our members volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Virginia Peninsula Foodbank
Our 24/7 food lockers at Sentara CarePlex Hospital are helping ensure that nutritious food is available anytime it’s needed. If you or someone you know could use extra support, simply call (757) 596-7188 to receive a code and get set up with a locker. Half of the lockers are reserved for patients being discharged, and the rest are open to anyone in the community experiencing hunger. Together, we’re nourishing our neighbors in new ways because food and health go hand in hand.
